Z Village

A neighbourhood for everyday life

Z Village studies the space between homes, where private life meets neighbourly exchange. A central courtyard and pedestrian lanes organise movement; water and planting create opportunities to pause and meet.

The proposal explores how an independent villa can belong to a neighbourhood. Homes, paths and shared spaces are considered together, bringing walking, conversation and outdoor activity into everyday life. Supporting accommodation services form part of the operating study.

Villa development extends beyond the design of an individual home: every entrance, outdoor space and path affects the relationship between dwelling and neighbourhood. Pedestrian routes and the central courtyard provide a framework for reading this study. Independent living sits alongside opportunities for shared activity, making the space between buildings part of the neighbourhood’s architectural value.

Water and planting accompany everyday life, offering places to slow down and shift attention from the home to the wider setting. Further design of such a development would need to consider shared-space management, service access and landscape maintenance alongside accommodation, so that neighbourhood continuity can also be sustained in use.
