Arches and brick in a contemporary programme
Arches and brick give the Isfahan cultural, recreational and commercial proposal its architectural language. They accompany a contemporary programme in which culture, shopping and shared activity need to connect.
Movement and pause are central to the presentation. Routes are considered as part of the experience, rather than simply the distance between uses. The archive image introduces this relationship between different activities and shared space.
Arches and brick offer a way to read the relationship between architectural language and a varied programme. Cultural activity, shopping and recreation each invite a different kind of presence; the complex’s architecture needs to connect these experiences within a coherent whole. Form and materials are presented in relation to that connection.
A cultural and commercial complex needs spaces where people can both pass through and stay. Attention to routes and pauses provides a setting for different activities to coexist. This study belongs to Azhianeh’s portfolio through that question: how a familiar architectural language can engage with a contemporary shared programme.
